We suppose that the first inhabitants of the Philippines came from China, approximately thirty thousand years ago and much more lately, from the Malay Peninsula. 
In the XIIth century, the powerful kingdom of Sri Vijaya, based on the island of Sumatra, spread its influence to the Philippines including Islam.
In 1521, the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan was the first European to approach the Philippines.

The United States annexed the Philippines in 1898, but gradually granted reforms, then the autonomy, from which the principle was obtained in 1916 by Manuel Quezón, who became in 1935 the President of an autonomous but not yet independent country. 
In October 1944 Mac Arthur returned to the Philippines and delivered the country from the Japanese invasion in April 1945 during one of the hardest battles of the Second World War. 
In 1946, the Philippines reached the independence, with the liberal Roxas as President.
